Import of new vehicles marks 5% rise

A total of 18,441 new motor vehicles were registered in the country in June 2017, of which 12,645 were automobiles, according to Statistics Finland.

First registrations of motor vehicles increased by 4.9 per cent in June this year from that in the corresponding month of 2016.

In June, the number of new private cars registered was 10,860, which is 1.0 per cent more from one year back. The share of new diesel-driven private cars was 31.1 per cent.

Statistics Finland acquired the data from the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.

Meanwhile, a total of 104,441 vehicles were first registered in the country in the first six months of this year. The number is 2.6 per cent higher than the first half of 2016.

The number of private cars first registered in the January to June period was 64,441, which is 1.6 per cent down from the year before.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January-June period were Toyota, Volkswagen, and Skoda.
