Motor vehicle sales increase by 9.8%

Sales in total trade increased by 4.5 per cent in May from that of May 2016, according to Statistics Finland.

Motor vehicle sales grew most among the sectors of trade, altogether by 9.8 per cent.

Sales in wholesale trade, in turn, grew by 4.9 per cent in May and retail trade went up by 1.3 per cent.

Sales of daily consumer goods grew by 1.4 per cent and sales in departmental store trade by 1.5 per cent from May 2016.

Sales volume of retail trade increased by 1.2 per cent year-on-year in May.

Sales volume in retail trade was 1.2 per cent higher in May than in May 2016.

Sales volume in motor vehicle trade, in turn, grew by 10.2 per cent. In wholesale trade, sales volume was at last year’s level in May.

Sales volume in total trade increased by 1.6 per cent compared with May 2016. The volume index of sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the value index series. In the January to May period, sales went up by 1.5 per cent in retail trade and by 6.1 per cent in wholesale trade compared with the corresponding period of 2016.

Sales in motor vehicle trade increased by 4.3 per cent over the same period. Total trade sales increased by 4.4 per cent from January to May 2016.

The reported annual changes in trade sales and sales volumes are not adjusted seasonally or by trading days, which means, the effects of public holidays are not considered.
