The national social insurance institution, Kela, on Tuesday announced that it would pay compensation of EUR 25 to 150 for delays in making payments of income support benefits, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
Kela took the decision following congestion of benefits applications after the income support system has been transferred to Kela from the municipalities’ social assistance services.
Kela, however, said that the amount of compensation will differ from case to case and it will be paid directly to the bank accounts of the affected and no separate application is needed in this regard.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Ombudsman Jussi Pajuojaon on Tuesday urged Kela to amend the spate of delays after he received about 200 complaints in this regard, reported yle.
Kela will compensation for a total of 146,000 delayed support decisions.
The delay was one to five working days for 76% of the applications, said Kela in a press release.
