Global lingerie brand Victoria's Secret wrapped up its first Shanghai fashion show on Monday, with a record number of Chinese models hitting the catwalk.

More than 3,000 guests packed the seats at Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena to watch the 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on Monday. Over 50 models walked this year's runway, including a record number of Chinese models -- seven altogether.

"I'm excited to attend the show in my motherland. I hope people pay more attention to Chinese models," said Liu Wen, a well-known Chinese model.

It was the first time a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has been held outside the United States or Europe since the catwalk events began in 1995.

Victoria's Secret was founded in the United States in the 1970s. The lingerie brand has started tapping the Chinese market as a growing number of women in the country have more money to spend on fancy undies.

The company has opened retail stores in Shanghai, Chengdu and Chongqing in the Chinese mainland.
