Athens Flying Week 2017 offers audience spectacular show

Famous pilots and aerobatic teams from around the world have offered a spectacular air show to thousands of spectators during the weekend at the airbase of Tanagra, about 63 kilometers northwest of Athens.

The aviation week of Athens which started on Sept. 11 culminated with the breathtaking two-day air show which ended on Sunday evening. Military and civilian aircraft have demonstrated their flight skills.

Fans of aviation enjoyed aircraft's activities, take-offs and landings from a short walking distance, incredible maneuvers, virtual dog fights and breathtaking acrobatics during the sixth Athens Flying Week International Air Show 2017.

Among the highlights of the weekend was the performance of British famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, Red Arrows display team with their BAE Systems Hawk T1.

The Silver Stars acrobatic team from Egypt, the aerobatic Silver Chicken from Italy and the Polish Air Force with the aerobatics team "Biao-Czerwone Iskry", impressed the visitors with their air performances.

From Sweden, world champion Johan Gustafsson thrilled the audience with his aviation spectacle, lighting up Tanagra's night sky with fireworks, music and aerobatics.

While, Danielle Hughes from England offered an exciting aerial choreography with her wingwalking around the 450hp Boeing Stearman, leaving crowds with open- mouthed astonishment.

The Greek Air Force could not be absent from the Athens Flying Week. The Zeus F-16 acrobatic team and the T-6 Daedalus team, along with Hellenic Skydivers, the oldest school of freeflying in Greece thrilled the crowd with their displays.

For the first time this year, there was also a drone spectacle. These unmanned, remotely controlled aircrafts, were displaying their aerial choreographies, at a speed that reach 150 km/h.

According to the organizers, the annual two-day aviation event, which is considered as one of the best shows in southeastern Europe, boasts more than 250,000 spectators from Greece and abroad.
