Nearly half of German social media users have considered deactivating their accounts, according to a latest survey.

Some 49 percent of participants in a survey commissioned by German magazine "Focus" had thought about their account closures on social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The survey results released on the same day also showed that 53 percent of male participants want closures, more than the 44 percent for female.

British data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica was recently accused of harvesting data of up to 50 million Facebook users without permission. The users' concern has come from the lack of data protection, according to the survey.
