Following attacks on three women in the German city of Nuremberg, the culprit is still on the run, police announced on Friday during a press conference.

According to the police, three women were attacked in the Nuremberg district of St. Johannis. The women suffered severe stab wounds, but would no longer be in a life-threatening condition. It was unclear whether the weapon was a knife.

"The three victims were attacked completely abruptly. The attacks are therefore to be classified as insidious, which is why the public prosecutor's office assumes attempted murder in all three cases," said chief prosecutor Antje Gabriels-Gorsolke during the press conference.

In order to investigate the crime, the Nuremberg police formed the special commission "Johannis", which consists of 40 officers. The police assumed that the crimes were committed by a single perpetrator.

There would be "no evidence" of a terroristic background, said Chief criminal investigator Thilo Bachmann during the press conference.
