The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday published a report with recommending specific measures for developing health security in Finland.

In Finland, health work is based on an operating model for comprehensive security.

The authorities, businesses and organisations are together preparing for various cross-border threats, said a government press release.

Health threats include, for example, antimicrobial resistance, influenza pandemics, and other epidemics that threaten to spread globally.

The Finnish authorities have already started to consider how the measures presented by WHO’s report can be coordinated with the different existing strategies and plans that strengthen the comprehensive security network of the society.

In the spring of this year, experts from different countries, WHO and other international organisations evaluated how well prepared Finland is to respond to different kinds of biological, chemical, radiation-related and other cross-border threats.

The preliminary results of the exceptionally extensive evaluation were published in March.

Health security evaluations have already been carried out in more than 40 countries.
