The City of Espoo is offering contraception for the young people of under 20 years at free of charge, said the city in a press release.

The young people from 20 to 24 years will receive combined oral contraceptive pills, progestogen-only pills (so-called mini pills), or a contraceptive vaginal ring free of charge for the first year of use.

Long-acting contraceptives, such as contraceptive implants and IUDs (intrauterine devices), are free of charge for the people under 25 years.

At a postpartum check-up or after an abortion, young people will receive free-of-charge combined oral contraceptive pills, mini pills or a contraceptive vaginal ring for 12 months or alternatively a copper IUD, a hormonal IUD or a contraceptive implant.

The young people can get free condoms from their school nurse and at the health centre in connection with an appointment.

People, who are 25 years of age or older will receive free-of-charge combined oral contraceptive pills, mini pills or a contraceptive vaginal ring free of charge for three months if you have not used hormonal contraception before.

The first copper IUD is free for them, who have not previously used a copper or hormonal IUD.
