6 eye injuries reported from fireworks display

Six people suffered eye injuries during New Year’s fireworks display, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The Helsinki University Hospital reported four eye injuries which had resulted from fireworks shooting.

According to the hospital, three of the injured were of the ages between 12 and 17. In two incidents, protective wears were not used.

In the third case, a child who was wearing protective goggles was injured while shooting the fireworks. The other person injured was a woman of more than 60 years who was not wearing protective goggles.

Two other cases of eye injuries were reported in Tampere. Their injuries were not severe.

The central hospitals of Kuopio, Oulu and Turku had not reported eye injuries from fireworks display by midday Monday.
