1 fined EUR 80,000 for facebook posts

The Central Finland District Court on Friday sentenced a man to three-month conditional imprisonment and fined EUR 80,000 for publishing profiles, photos and personal information of sex crimes convicts in facebook, National Broadcaster Yle Reported.

The man from Äänekoski was convicted of maintaining an illegal register, slander, and aggravated distribution of information in a violation of privacy.

The verdict said that the facebook profiles have about 16,000 followers and the offences were among the most harmful personal data violations, said the Yle report.

The court ordered the convict to pay a total of more than 80,000 euros and interest as cost of legal fees and compensation to the 13 plaintiffs of the case.
