Finland ready to help Jordan to tackle Covid-19 situation

Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Tuesday expressed Finland´s willingness to extend cooperation to Jordan to tackle the situation of the country against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Pandemic COVID-19 hits hard many economies in Middle East including Jordan………... Finland is prepared to help Jordan on the issues as consequences of the Covid-19,” said Haavisto at a joint press conference after a meeting with his visiting Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Helsinki in the afternoon.
Haavisto also vowed to continue the good relations with Jordan on various common grounds such as human rights, climate change, refugees issue and building peace in the region.
The Finnish Foreign Minister, however, expressed concern over the regional development in Lebanon.
Speaking at the press conference , Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi expressed his satisfaction over fruitful discussions on various bilateral and international issues including tourism, technology, investment and works for regional peace and prosperity.
He also spoke for an amicable solution of Israel-Palestine conflict based on the two states solution.
Replying to a query regarding Jordan´s “muted” role in the recent Israel Hamas conflicts in spring, Safadi straightway rejected the term “muted” indicating his country´s role and said that Jordan continuously worked in this regard and took the matter of Israeli´s provocative role to the Security Council, UN General Assembly, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Arab League etc.
He reiterated that his country believes to restore peace based on two state solution.
Safadi appreciated Finland´s role in various issues including resolving Middle East conflicts, refugees issue saying that Finland played a major role to keep the initiatives alive in the international forum
“Jordan is an important partner in the Middle East for Finland and the EU. We appreciate Jordan’s efforts to promote stability and peace in the crisis-ridden region. In our bilateral political and commercial relations, there is plenty of room for closer cooperation,” said Haavisto earlier, on the eve of the visit of Safadi.
