Importance of Arctic region is constantly growing: Berner

Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner will attend the three-day Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø, Norway beginning on Sunday.

She will be one of the keynote speakers and attend a panel discussion under the theme Technology and connectivity - innovating for a sustainable Arctic Future, said an official press release.

"The importance of the Arctic region is constantly growing. The role of reliable transport and communications connections will increase also in global perspective. We want to be involved in developing sustainable transport and communications connections in the region, together with all the operators and inhabitants in the area. Arctic connectivity is also one of the key themes during Finland's Chairmanship of the Arctic Council," said Berner.

During the event, the minister will also meet her Norwegian counterpart Ketil Solvik-Olsen and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

Arctic Frontiers is an international event focused on sustainable development of the Arctic region. The conference will discuss challenges and opportunities related to sustainable development.

Berner will also meet other event participants, such as high-level decision-makers, researchers and representatives of business life, and open a side event "How to Create Sustainable Business in the Arctic".
