Niinistö, Trump hold telephone conversations

President Sauli Niinistö on Monday had a telephone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump and discussed the state of international relations in general and the Arctic region in particular, said a press release issued by the President office.

Finland currently chairs the Arctic Council.

During the discussion, Niinistö also expressed his hope that President Trump’s meetings with Emmanuel Macron, the President of France and Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor are fruitful.

Trump again congratulated President Niinistö on his re-election.

The discussion was held on Finland’s initiative, the press release added.
