The District Court of Helsinki on Friday remanded in custody a man suspected of killing a seven years old boy in the Helsinki district of Arabiaranta on Christmas Eve, reported Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat quoting police.

The police said that the 36-year old man is the uncle of the victim, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The boy died in Brysselinkatu street late on Christmas Eve. According to the police, a knife was used in the murder.

The police said the incident is being investigated as a murder due to the cruel nature of the act and the fact that the boy was defenseless given his young age.

The suspect was a guest visiting the victim's family at the time of the incident.

Besides the victim, there were two adults in the family and another child in the apartment.
