Finland donates €3.7m to UNICEF in Lebanon

Finland donated on Wednesday 3.7 million euros to the "No Lost Generation" program in Lebanon by the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), local media reported.

The program aimed at providing children over 10 years old with access to protection, social assistance and education.

"More than 7,000 children and youths, currently out of any form of learning and exposed to high risks of child labor and child marriage, will receive access to informal learning, psychosocial support, social assistance, and competency-based and life skill training," said a statement issued by the UNICEF and released by the National News Agency.

The new funding will focus on the most vulnerable children in 56 municipalities in Lebanon.

Finnish ambassador to Lebanon Tarja Fernandez said that supporting young people's education and vocational training gives them a chance for a better future.

Violet Speek Warnery, UNICEF's deputy representative in Lebanon, said her agency will continue to support vulnerable children and adolescents with education, protection and opportunities for a better future through Finland's contribution.

"We are grateful to the government of Finland for their continuous support for our work with children and families in need," she said.
