Finnish national highway No. 4 in Kempele, south of the northern city of Oulu, was closed on Monday morning for several hours due to consecutive accidents.

There were 26 cars, two heavy trucks and one bus involved. Thirteen people were taken to hospital, local newspaper Kaleva reported. The identities of the injured were not reported.

The driving conditions were affected by snow, but the situation was not unusual taken the time of the year and the northern location, national broadcaster Yle said.

Finnish language newspaper Kaleva reported that the cluster of accidents was the largest since 2013 when 40 automobiles were involved.
