Former Argentina and Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli has been confirmed as the new manager of Brazilian club Santos.

The announcement came two days after Sampaoli arrived in Brazil to negotiate final details of a two-year contract.

In a brief statement released late on Monday, Santos said the 58-year-old Argentine would be presented to the media on Tuesday afternoon local time.

Sampaoli has been out of work since parting ways with Argentina following the Albiceleste's erratic performances at this year's World Cup in Russia.

He has also managed clubs in Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Peru and Spain during a coaching career that has spanned nearly three decades.

Eight-time Brazilian Serie A champions Santos finished 10th in the country's top division this year. Their former coach Cuca stepped down last month because of health problems.
