Air Traffic Controllers call weeklong strike from March 3

Finnish Air Traffic controllers Association-SLJY on Monday announced to go for another strike at eight airports in the country slated to be observed from March 3 to March 11.

Service Sector Employers Union- Palta has informed the National Conciliator about the decision of Finnish Air Traffic controllers Association-SLJY to launch a second wave of strike, said Palta in a press release.

The second phase of the strike will begin on March 3 at 09:00 and will end on March 11 at 09:00.

Earlier on February 9, the SLJY announced to go for a 39-hour employee strike at eight airports in the country on February 23.

The first phase strike is scheduled to begin at 18:00 o’clock on February 23 and will be ended at 9:00 O’clock on February 25.

The air traffic controllers last week rejected National Conciliator’s proposal for a new collective bargaining agreement.

Tuomas Aarto, the CEO of Palta expressed hope that a quick resolution of the dispute would be reached.

Aarto emphasised to a quick solution for the interest of all the parties.

The association, however, said that the strike will not put impact on flight safety services.

The negotiations regarding the terms and conditions of new job contracts between SLJY and Palta began after expiry of air traffic controllers’ collective agreement on November 30, 2017.
