A knife-wielding Palestinian man stabbed and killed three Israelis and seriously injured another one in a West Bank settlement on Friday night before he was shot and "neutralized," Israeli officials said.
The assailant arrived at the Israeli settlement of Halamish, north of Ramallah, where he entered one of the homes and stabbed three people, said a military spokesperson.
According to initial reports by the emergency medical service, a 70-year-old woman was in a "critical" condition and a 30-year-old man was "severely" injured. A 60-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries.
The condition of the stabber was not immediately clear. The military spokesperson said he was "shot and neutralized," apparently by one of the residents of the settlement. A later report on Walla news site said he died of his wounds at the scene.
Forces are scanning the area in search for more assailants, the spokesperson said.
Earlier on Friday, three Palestinian youths were killed during protests over metal detectors installed by Israel in the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. At least 367 more Palestinians were injured, according to the Red Crescent.
Anger across East Jerusalem and the West Bank boiled on Friday after Israel limited Muslim access to the compound.
The detectors perceived by the Palestinians as a violation of the status quo at the volatile site, which is sacred to both Muslims and Jews.
