A United Airlines flight from Rome to Chicago was diverted to Ireland on Monday over "potential security concerns," said airline officials.

Hours after United flight 971 took off from Rome about 10:40 a.m. local time, it was forced to land in Ireland due to a "potential security concern," according to a statement from the United Airlines.

Some reports said a threatening note was found on board the Boeing 767-300, which had 207 passengers and 11 crew members.

All customers and baggages are being searched at Shannon Airport.

"Customers and crew will receive assistance with overnight accommodations and will arrive in Chicago on June 12," the United Airlines tweeted.
