Bus accident in Ecuador kills 23, injures 14

At least 23 people were killed and 14 others injured when a long-distance bus crashed with a smaller vehicle on a highway and overturned near Ecuador's capital Quito in the early hours of Tuesday, local media reported.

The accident occurred in a curvy area on the Pifo-Papallacta Highway at about 3 a.m. local time, media said. The victims included Colombian and Venezuelan nationals.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, according to a preliminary report released by a fire department officer via Twitter.

On Sunday, another bus full of soccer fans in Ecuador overturned on a highway, killing 12 people and injuring 30 nearby Cuenca.
