Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will attend the Eight Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) in Beijing, China, from June 7 to June 9, said an official press release.

The topics of the meeting include energy-efficient technologies, widely affordable clean energy and clean technology promotion. A Team Finland business delegation will also attend the meeting.

The Second Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-2) will take place in parallel with CEM8. Mission Innovation is a global initiative aiming to accelerate global clean energy innovation to mitigate climate change and safeguard access to clean energy.

It was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference 2015 in Paris. Finland joined the initiative in November 2016. It opens opportunities for Finnish cleantech companies to collaborate with international investors.

The 22 member countries and the EU have committed to seek to double their governments’ clean energy research and development investments by 2020. The Smart Energy programme launched by Tekes in May is one of Finland’s measures to reach this goal.

During his visit Minister Lintilä will have a bilateral meeting with Li Chenggang, Assistant Minister of Trade.

Technology exhibitions and discussions concerning clean energy promotion will also take place in Beijing along with the ministerial meetings.

The next year’s ministerial meetings CEM9 and MI-3 will be hosted by the Nordic countries in Copenhagen and Malmö in May.
