The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of big companies in the country earned about 48 times higher salary and benefits than the salary and benefits of normal employees last year, National broadcaster Yle reported quoting a Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

The difference in the salary was 37 times in 2010.

The newspaper conducted a survey, which found that the basic salaries of the Chief Executive Officers increased by 20 percent since 2010.

The average salary of an ordinary employee increased by 14 percent during the stipulated period.

The newspaper has been monitoring the remuneration (basic salary plus bonuses) of the CEOs of about 40 major companies since 2005.
