Trade balance shows €195m surplus in June

The trade balance showed a surplus of 195 million euros in June, according to the preliminary statistics on international trade in goods provided by the Finnish Customs.

Calculated from January to June there was a surplus of 130 million euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 1.2 billion euros. Last year the trade balance for June showed a deficit of 175 million euros, said a Customs press release on Thursday.

The value of Finnish exports decreased three per cent and the value of imports 10 per cent in June year on year.

The value of Finnish exports in June was slightly over 5.2 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 5.1 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have increased by four per cent but imports have decreased by one per cent year on year.

Exports to EU member states decreased seven per cent while exports to non-EU countries increased three per cent in June. Imports from EU countries decreased 14 per cent and imports from non-EU countries fell three per cent in June.

Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU increased two per cent and to non-EU countries six per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states remained at the level of the previous year, but decreased two per cent from other countries.
