The Finnish Border Guard has opened a bid process for Offshore Patrol Vessel "Merikarhu" on the basis of offers due on 14th of November 2019, said an official press release.
The vessel is suited and equipped for patrolling, SAR and other related activities in coastal areas and at sea.
The vessel has been in the use of the Finnish Border Guard since her delivery 1994. The vessel is built by Finnyards at Rauma and has been maintained and surveyed in accordance with Border Guard instructions and procedures.
The sale requires an export permission and the deal requires a final permission by the Council of State. The Border Guard reserves its right to accept or refuse an offer. In judging the suitability of the bidder the Defence Materiel laws and regulations of Finland and the Council Common Position of EU are applied.
These defence material related procedures are used even though the ship is built according to COTS-principles and has no armament.
The sale shall be conducted as a direct sale against payment. The Border Guard Headquarters reserves the right to negotiate with the highest bidders on the sale conditions including a possibility to raise the highest offers.
Preference may be given to operators in the Baltic using the ships in Coast Guard, SAR or oil recovery activities.
Delivery requires payment of the purchase price in full as well as fulfilment of the terms of the sale. The vessel has to be moved from the area of the Border Guard within two weeks from delivery.
