Nearly 65,000 families, which is about two percent of the all households in the country, get their total house rents from the national social insurance institution (Kela), reported a Finnish language business daily Taloussanomat.
Kela provides the residents who need help with housing benefits. More than 500000 families receive part amount of house rent as a housing benefit, said the report.
The low income group or unemployed people are also eligible to apply for basic social benefit, even, if the housing benefit they get from Kela is proved insufficient.
Quoting sources in Kela, the report said that 135,000 families in the country regularly receive basic social assistance to help them with housing.
Kela provided the needy residents with 286 million euros basic social assistance in the last six months.
