Finnish exports drop 15% in August

The year-on-year value of Finnish exports decreased by 14.8 per cent and that of imports declined by 14.4 per cent in August 2020, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by the Finnish Customs on Wednesday.

In August, the value of Finnish exports stood at EUR 4.3 billion and that of imports at almost EUR 4.6 billion. In the January-August period, the total value of exports decreased by 16.4 per cent and that of imports by 12.3 per cent year on year.

The trade balance posted a EUR 245 million deficit in August. In January-August, the trade balance ran a deficit of EUR 2.4 billion. In August last year, the trade balance was EUR 264 million in deficit, and in January-August it was EUR 771 million in deficit.

Exports to EU member states decreased by 14.3 per cent and to non-EU countries by 15.4 per cent in August.

Imports from EU-countries diminished by 11.8 per cent and from non-EU countries by 17.7 per cent in August. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries decreased by 16 per cent and to non-EU countries by 16.8 per cent.

During the same period, imports from EU member states fell by 10.6 per cent and from other countries by 14.6 per cent.
