Export declines by 11.8% in October

The value of Finnish exports decreased by 11.8 per cent, while the value of imports declined by 11.3 per cent in October this year compared to that in the stipulated month of the previous year, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by the Finnish Customs.

The value of Finnish exports in October was about EUR 5.1 billion and the value of imports slightly over EUR 5.1 billion, said a Customs press release on Monday.

In January-October, the total value of exports decreased by 14.8 per cent and the value of imports by 11.3 per cent year on year.

The trade balance stood at EUR 60 million in deficit in October. In January-October, the trade balance ran a deficit of EUR 2.9 billion. In October last year, the trade balance was EUR 36 million in deficit, and in January-October it was EUR 1.1 billion in deficit.

Exports to EU member states decreased by 7.2 per cent and to non-EU countries by 17.3 per cent in October.

Imports from EU-countries diminished by 8.3 per cent and from non-EU countries by 15.6 per cent in the month.

Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries decreased by 13.6 per cent and to non-EU countries by 16.2 per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states fell by 9.4 per cent and from other countries by 13.8 per cent.
