More than 57% of the Finns said they were planning to buy their Christmas presents online this year, reports a survey commissioned by the national postal and logistic services operator Posti.

The survey was conducted at the end of November with one thousand Finns taking part.

Consumers are attracted online by the freedom of making purchases when it suits them. About 67% of the respondents quoted freedom as the main reason.

The next most important factors were safety and the lack of crowds (56%), and ease and time-saving (56%). Nearly half of the respondents (48%) also enjoyed the lack of stress and queues.

More than 12% of the respondents believe that the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently changed the way people buy online.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has diverted more consumers to online stores,” said Posti Parcel and eCommerce Vice-President Tommi Kässi.

Commissioned by Posti, the survey was conducted by IROResearch Oy’s national consumer panel on November 17–26 November.
