Country sees more open job vacancies in Q2

The number of open job vacancies was 51,100 in the second quarter of 2021, while the figure was 35,400 one year before, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of open job vacancies returned to the level that preceded the corona pandemic two years ago.
In the second quarter of 2021, a total of 37,100 or 73 per cent of the job vacancies were in establishments owned by private enterprises, while one year earlier the corresponding share was 70 per cent.
Compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of open job vacancies increased especially in the private sector (+12,400) and in establishments with at least 10 employees.
Examined by the industry of the establishment, job vacancies increased most (+6,700) in the industry group of trade, transportation and storage, accommodation and food service activities (G to I).
The number of open job vacancies increased in all major regions but in absolute terms most in Helsinki-Uusimaa (+5,800).
In the second quarter, 36 per cent of all open job vacancies were fixed-term jobs. Twenty-one per cent of all open job vacancies were part-time positions, while one year earlier the corresponding share was 16 per cent.
Employers estimated that 58 per cent of the open job vacancies were hard-to-fill, while the corresponding share one year earlier was 44 per cent. For example, establishments in human health and social work activities (Q), construction (F), and accommodation and food service activities (I) had plenty of jobs considered hard to fill.
