Power consumption rises by 6% in 2021

Electricity consumption grew by six per cent in 2021, according to Statistics Finland.

The growth was covered by imports of electricity and domestic production.

Net imports of electricity grew by 18 per cent. Imports from Russia covered 10.5 per cent of electricity consumption.

Domestic production of electricity increased by 4 per cent compared to the previous year.

The increase in production was mainly covered by renewable energy, with the largest increase in the use of wood fuels.

Net imports of electricity grew by 17.6 per cent from the year before.
