Trade balance posts €1.2b deficit in March

The trade balance was in deficit of EUR 1.2 billion in March, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided recently by Finnish Customs.

In January-March, the aggregated deficit amounted to EUR 3.2 billion.

In March 2021, the trade balance was EUR 295 million in deficit and in January-March of the same year, the aggregated deficit was EUR 1.1 billion.

According to the preliminary statistics, the value of Finnish exports increased by 19.9 per cent, and the value of imports by 33.4 per cent in March year-on-year.

The value of Finnish exports in March was EUR 7.0 billion and the value of imports EUR 8.2 billion. During the reference month in 2021 exports increased by 14.8 per cent and imports by 13.0 per cent.

In January-March 2021, the total value of exports increased by 22.7 per cent and the value of imports by 33.8 per cent year-on-year.

Exports to EU member states increased by 30.5 per cent, and exports to non-EU countries by 7.2 per cent in March.

Imports from EU countries increased by 19.1 per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 55.4 per cent.

Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries rose by 28.4 per cent and to non-EU countries by 15.4 per cent.

During the same period, imports from EU member states rose by 22.2 per cent and from other countries by 50.6 per cent.
