Number of employed, unemployed persons rises in Aug

The number of employed people was 30,000 higher in August 2022 than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey.
The number of unemployed persons was 8,000 higher in August than one year ago. The trend of the employment rate was 73.6 per cent and the trend of the unemployment rate was 7.1 per cent in August.
In August 2022, the number of employed persons was 2,618,000 and that of the unemployed 187,000.
There were 10,000 more employed men and 19,000 more employed women than one year ago.

In August, the employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 74.2 per cent, having been 73.4 per cent one year earlier.
From the previous year’s August, the employment rate of men aged 15 to 64 rose by 0.7 percentage points to 74.9 per cent and that of women went up by 1.0 percentage points to 73.5 per cent. The employment rate of people aged 20 to 69 was 72.3 per cent, having been 71.7 per cent in the year before.
In August, the unemployment rate, the proportion of the unemployed among the labour force stood at 6.7 per cent, having been 6.5 per cent one year earlier. From the previous year’s August men’s unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 7.0 per cent and women’s by 0.2 percentage points to 6.3 per cent.
In August, the unemployment rate for people aged 15 to 24 stood at 8.1 per cent, which was 2.0 percentage points lower than one year previously.
The trend of the unemployment rate among young people was 13.5 per cent. The share of unemployed young people aged 15 to 24 among the population in the same age group was 4.2 per cent.
