Number of building permits further drops in Jun-Aug

Building permits for newbuilding were granted for a total of 9.4 million cubic metres in June to August 2022, which was eight per cent less than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland.

In June to August, building projects totalling 9.9 million cubic metres were started, which was 21 per cent down from one year earlier.

Three per cent more residential building projects were started than one year ago.

Building permits from June to August were granted for a total of 8,288 dwellings, which was 25 per cent less than one year earlier.

Altogether 21 per cent fewer building projects were started in June to August 2022 than one year earlier.

For total construction, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production remained on level with the previous year.

The volume of residential building construction increased by six per cent and that of other than residential building construction decreased by five per cent from one year earlier.
