A total of 58% of Finns living in a housing company homes stated that their housing company hadn’t undertaken energy saving measures of any kind, according to a survey commissioned by OP Financial Group.
Energy saving and rising heating costs led to a lively debate in the autumn, but the discussion doesn’t seem to have galvanised Finnish housing companies into action, said OP in a press release on Thursday referring to the survey.
“This percentage is alarmingly high. Monitoring a housing company’s energy consumption is part of good governance. Having proper monitoring in place enables preparation for energy renovations ahead. The longer energy renovations are postponed, the more challenging they become,” said Henrik Tuhkanen, Business Development Manager, Real Estate Management of OP Koti.
Of the respondents living in a housing company, 21% stated that their company had lowered the indoor or housing unit’s temperature as an energy saving measure. Windows had been replaced in 9% of the respondents’ housing companies and lighting in 8% of them.
A total of 1,157 Finns living in housing companies responded to the survey commissioned by OP from Taloustutkimus.
