Sea transport increased 2% in December

The goods volume of foreign sea transport was in total 8.1 million tonnes in December 2022. Sea transport increased by 2 per cent from December 2021, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.

Exports decreased by 10 per cent and were 3.9 million tonnes. Import volume increased by 17 per cent and were 4.2 million tonnes. Altogether 1.0 million persons were transported in passenger traffic, which was 75 per cent of the level before the corona pandemic.

The volume of foreign shipping traffic totalled 8.1 million tonnes in December 2022.

The volume of foreign shipping traffic increased by 2 per cent year-on-year.

Altogether 1.1 million tonnes of goods were transported in transport units and 0.9 million tonnes in containers.

Altogether 1.0 million persons were transported in passenger traffic, which was 75 per cent of the level before the coronavirus pandemic.

No transport was registered through the Saimaa Canal in December.
