Metsä to lay off 1100 workers at 7 mills

Forest industry company Metsä decided to temporarily layoff a total of 1100 employees at its seven paperboard and Bleached Chemi-ThermoMechanical Pulp (BCTMP) mills in Finland, said the company in a press release on Wednesday.
The possible layoffs would last a maximum of 90 days and could be implemented in several installments by the end of this year.
The negotiations involve the employees at the Joutseno, Kaskinen, Kemi, Kyro, Tampere, Simpele and Äänekoski mills.
The change negotiations will start next week and estimated to last two weeks.
With the change negotiations, the company is preparing to adapt the production temporarily for low delivery volumes.
