Last month sees July highest bankruptcies in 2000s

A total of 224 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in July 2023, which is 76 more than in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.
Over the 2000s, the number of bankruptcies in July has never been as high as in July 2023.
The number of staff-years in enterprises that filed for bankruptcy totalled 858, which is 338 staff-years more than in July 2022.
During the past 12 months, the number of bankruptcies was 22 per cent higher than in the 12 months preceding this period.
In July 2023, most bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in the industries of construction and other service activities.
In the industry of other service activities, 68 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated, and in construction 61 bankruptcies.

Meanwhile, 13,171 new enterprises were registered during the second quarter of 2023, according to Statistics Finland.
Compared to the corresponding period of the year before, the number of registrations went up by two per cent. Of the registered enterprises 4,571 were limited companies and 8,497 were natural persons.
During the second quarter of 2023, three per cent fewer limited companies were registered than in the corresponding period of the year before.
Of the enterprises registered during the second quarter of 2023, a total of 8,497 were natural persons, which was five per cent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
