More bankruptcies filed in October

A total of 269 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in October 2023, which is 53 more than in the corresponding period one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of staff-years in enterprises that filed for bankruptcy totalled 1,164, which is 300 staff-years more than in October 2022.
During the past 12 months, the number of bankruptcies was 20 per cent higher than in the 12 months preceding this period.
In October 2023, most bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in the industries of construction and other service activities. In the industry of other service activities, 89 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated, and in construction 64 bankruptcies.
Meanwhile, 12,561 new enterprises were registered during the third quarter of 2023. Compared to the corresponding period of the year before, the number of registrations went up by two per cent.
Of the registered enterprises 4,764 were limited companies and 7,712 were natural persons.
During the third quarter of 2023, five per cent more limited companies were registered than in the corresponding period of the year before.
