Fewer lumbers harvested for industrial use in Jan

A total of 5.7 million cubic metres of roundwood was harvested for industrial use in January 2024, which was 7% lower compared to the harvest in previous year and 3% lower than the five-year January average, said the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) in a press release on Thursday.

Sawlogs accounted for 2.5 million Cubic metre while pulpwood for 3.2 million Cubic metre s of the industrial roundwood removal.

Industrial roundwood removals from non-industrial private forests were 4.8 million cubic metres, being 7% less than the previous year.

The felling volume in forest industry companies’ forests and state-owned forests was 1.0 million cubic metres, down by 6% from the year before.

Energywood removals totalled 368,000 cubic metres, being 8% less than the previous year.
