Turnover in industry drops by 6% in Jan

Working day adjusted turnover in industry (TOL BCD) decreased by 6.0 per cent in January 2024 from January 2023, according to Statistics Finland.
Turnover decreased most in January in the electrical and electronics industry.
Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry increased by 4.5 per cent in January from the month before.
Turnover decreased in January 2024 in nearly all main industries. Turnover adjusted for working days decreased most in the electrical and electronics industry, where turnover was 20.0 per cent lower than one year before.
Turnover in the metal industry decreased by 14.2 per cent and in the forest industry by 10.3 per cent from one year ago.
Turnover grew only in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and was 23.5 per cent higher than one year earlier.
Export turnover decreased in several main industries in January 2024. Compared to one year ago, export turnover decreased most in the electrical and electronics industry (19.6%) and the metal industry (15.7%).
In the forest industry, turnover was 7.9 per cent lower than one year previously. Export turnover grew in mining and quarrying (10.7%) and in the chemical industry (6.2%).
Domestic turnover decreased in nearly all main industries. Domestic turnover decreased most in the chemical industry, being 20.6 per cent lower than one year earlier.
Domestic turnover decreased by 14.6 per cent in the forest industry and by 12.0 per cent in the metal industry. Domestic turnover grew only in the food industry and was 0.7 per cent higher than one year earlier.
Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry grew by 4.5 per cent in January 2024 compared to December. Turnover decreased in December by 1.7 per cent and in November by 0.9 per cent compared to the month before.
