Most shops to stay open on New Year holiday

The opening hours of shops will vary on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day; however, most grocery stores will remain open.
Those who wish to buy alcoholic beverages will have to do their purchases on Saturday, since Alko outlets will be closed on Sunday and on New Year’s Day, reported the local media.
According to Kesko, all K-Market stores will be open on New Year’s Eve and almost all the stores will open their doors on New Year.
The majority of S-Group stores will also remain open on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, except a few.
Most of the Lidl stores will remain open between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm on New Year’s Eve. Similarly, many of the Lidl stores will also remain open on New Year’s Day between 12:00 am and 6:00 pm, 12:00 am and 7:00 pm, and 12:00 am and 8:00 pm. Customers have been advised to check the shop opening hours from respective shops’ websites.
The main postal offices will also remain closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
VR long distance trains will operate on New Year’s Eve as per the Sunday’s timetable. However, the evening and night trains will run less sparingly compared to a normal Sunday. On New Year’s Day, the trains will run according to the Sunday’s schedule. The commuter trains will also run as per the Sunday’s schedule on New Year’s Eve.
The bus services will also be affected by the holidays, according to Matkahuolto, the company which operates and maintains bus stations. Some buses will not be in operation during the holiday period. Travellers can check the schedules of the train and bus services from VR and Matkahuolto websites.
