2260 workers to affect as UPM starts layoffs talks

The Finnish forest industry company UPM on Friday announced to start negotiation talks with the view to temporary layoffs in Finland which will affect about 2260 employees, said the company in a press release on Friday.
The change negotiations on possible temporary layoffs cover all UPM pulp mills, sawmills, and communication paper mills in Finland.
About 820 persons in UPM Pulp Finland's operations, 340 persons in UPM Timber sawmills and 1,100 persons in UPM Communication Papers Finnish mills will be affected in the negotiations.
The possible temporary layoffs could take place between 1 July and 31 December 2024 in UPM Pulp and UPM Timber, and between 1 September 2024 and 28 February 2025 in UPM Communication Papers.
Decisions on possible temporary layoffs will be made after the negotiations have been concluded.
Any temporary layoffs could be implemented in stages and could last altogether a maximum of 90 days.
