900 workers to affect as Versowood starts layoff talks

Sawmill operator Versowood started layoff negotiations with the employees affecting all the 900 staff of the company, said the company in a press release on Thursday.

The employees may face temporary layoffs.

The company took the situation following the ongoing strike enforced by the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK).

Freight transport and production in the major industries remained standstill from Monday as the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK)

SAK is observing the tougher strike across the country protesting against the labour market reforms and cuts in working condition undertaken by the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) led four-party alliance government.

According to Versowood, the strike affected the business severely as most of the production of the company is export-oriented.
