New car registration on wane in August

A total of 6,548 new passenger cars were registered in August 2024, which was 16 per cent fewer than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

In all, 11,064 new vehicles were registered in August. First registrations decreased by 16 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In January to August period of 2024, a total of 50,905 new passenger cars were registered, which was 17 per cent fewer than one year earlier.

Of first-time registered passenger cars in August, 29 per cent were fully electric.

The number of their registrations was 1,893, or 33 per cent fewer than one year earlier.

Used imported passenger cars numbered 4,270, which was 4 per cent more than one year earlier.
