Electricity production at the Olkiluoto 2(OL2) nuclear power plant will resume on October 6, according to the new estimate disclosed on Tuesday by the Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO), owner of the plant.

The TVO in a press release said that the repair plan for the generator fault at OL2 has been clarified.

The faulty rotor of OL2's generator will be replaced with a spare rotor located at Olkiluoto.

Earlier on September 12, TVO estimated the date of resumption of power generation on September 29.

Electricity production at the Olkiluoto 2(OL2) nuclear power plant remained suspended since September 9 due to increased moisture detected in the generator of the turbine plant.

The issue has been identified as a fault in the rotor of the water-cooled generator.

OL2 has a nominal power capacity of 890 MW. The electricity produced by the unit accounts for about 8 percent of the electricity used in Finland.

The OL1 and OL3 units at Olkiluoto are operating normally.
