The Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) nuclear power plant on Wednesday resumed electricity generation at normal capacity after drop of the production earlier on the day due to a technical glitch, said owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release.

The power generation at the unit decreased by about a half in the morning following sudden drove of one control rod into the reactor.

The plant's production power automatically decreased to about 1220 MW.

The drop was caused by a failure in the control rod drive mechanism.

To investigate the cause of the disturbance and to repair the fault, the unit was being operated at a low power level.

The plant's power production was reduced by about 750 MW in accordance with disturbance instructions.

The authority later identified the cause of the disturbance related to the unexpected drop of the control rod and solved the issue in the afternoon.

The power generation started to increase to reach to the normal capacity.
