Enterprise openings increase by 7.7% in 2017

There were 6,795 enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2017, according to Statistics Finland.
Enterprise openings increased by 7.7 per cent from the third quarter of 2016, when they numbered 6,311.
Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in professional, scientific and technical activities, where they numbered 1,197, or 17.6 per cent of all enterprise openings in the third quarter. In construction, enterprise openings numbered 987 (14.5%) and in trade 872 (12.8%).
Compared to the third quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise openings decreased most in trade (-180).
Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the third quarter of 2017 in Uusimaa, where it was 2,619. The number of enterprise openings was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (646), in Pirkanmaa (622) and in North Ostrobothnia (422). Compared to the third quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise openings increased most in Uusimaa (180) and decreased most in Kainuu (-13).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the third quarter of 2017, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,479), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (507), Turku (445), Oulu (284) and Jyväskylä (214). Compared to the third quarter of 2016, enterprise openings increased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (190) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Pori (-17).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the third quarter of 2017 in Helsinki (1,239), followed by Espoo (430), Vantaa (319), Tampere (303), Turku (278) and Oulu (236). Compared to the third quarter of 2016, enterprise openings increased most in Espoo (90) and decreased most in Pori (-17).
Examined by legal form, in the third quarter of 2017, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 3,494 and those of the form of limited company 2,822. Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 51.4 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 41.5 per cent of all enterprise openings.
