Fewer open job vacancies in Q3

There were 34,600 open job vacancies in the third quarter of 2024, while the figure was 42,400 one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.
The data describe the situation on the first day of September. The number of open job vacancies in the third quarter was this low last time in 2017.
In the third quarter of 2024, altogether 79 per cent or 27,400 per cent of the job vacancies were in establishments owned by private enterprises.
The number of job vacancies decreased compared to one year ago, for example in establishments in the private sector (3,000), in municipalities, joint municipal authorities and wellbeing services counties (2,600) and in organisations, associations and foundations (1,900).
The number of open job vacancies decreased in all major regions and in all size categories of establishments compared to one year earlier.
When examined by the industry of the establishment, job vacancies decreased particularly in establishments in the industry group of public administration, education, human health and social work activities (6,200).
In the third quarter, 27 per cent of all open job vacancies were fixed-term positions, while one year earlier the corresponding share was 26 per cent.
The share of part-time jobs in all open job vacancies was 16 per cent, which is slightly lower than in the previous year (19%).
Employers estimated that 50 per cent of the open job vacancies were hard-to-fill, which is six percentage points lower than one year before (56%).
